Nantucket® BeadBoard products can be installed using standard woodworking tools and techniques.

Panel Conditioning: All wood products are affected by humidity causing them to expand and contract. Relative humidity of interior installation sites should not be less than 25% nor more than 55% prior to startin9 installation. You can monitor this by the use of an inexpensive hygrometer available at most home centers and hardware stores. Condition your panels by placing them in the room to be paneled, with spacers between each piece to allow for air circulation.

Allow 48-72 hours (average) for material to acclimate to the humidity and temperature of the room in which it is to be applied. For exterior application of MRX™ products acclimation to the area of installation MUST take place. Allow 48-72 hours (average) for materials to acclimate to the humidity and temperature of the area in which it is to be installed. Protective measures should be taken to prevent exposure to direct weather during the acclimation time period.

Spans & Support:

  • 1 / 2″ Nantucket® BeadBoard products require support every 16″ on center.
  • 3/8″ product requires support every 12″ on center.
  • 1 /4″ product requires support every 12″ on center (¼” product is not recommended for horizontal applications).

Installation “Do’s & Don’ts”:

Interior applications:

  • Use a dust mask and eye protection throughout the installation process.
  • Nantucket® BeadBoard may be attached to the drywall or if local building codes allow directly to the studs.
  • Use a quality panel adhesive that maintains flexibility when cured to allow the panel to adjust with changes in temperature.
  • Do not use “hard” or “rigid” setting adhesives.
  • Using “spot nails” will allow the adhesive to cure and keep the panel in place during curing.
  • All splices or butt joints must occur over framing members.
  • In high moisture locations or below grade applications leave a ½” gap between the product and the floor to avoid moisture wicking. Nantucket® BeadBoard products should not be installed in direct contact with concrete or masonry products.

Exterior applications:

  • Use a dust mask and eye protection throughout the installation process.
  • Use a quality panel adhesive that maintains flexibility when cured to allow the panel to adjust with changes in temperature.
  • Do not use “hard” or “rigid” setting adhesives.
  • Panels should be secured to framing members every 16″ on center.
  • Use adhesive and nails in combination.
  • Do not use staples, T-nails, or finish nails as these fasteners may not keep the panel or strip secure in extreme conditions.
  • The preferred nail head size for exterior applications is 3/16″ and long enough to penetrate 1-1/4″ into the structural member.
  • Prime all exposed factory and field cut edges prior to installation.
  • All splices or butt joints must occur over framing members.
  • When installing MRX™ (exterior product) products your design must allow for a 5/8″ gap between every 16′ run of material.

Finishing:
All exposed fasteners should be countersunk, covered with putty or wood patch and sanded flush. Where appropriate, caulk with quality painters caulk and allow to dry. To achieve the best results, sand primer coat, removing any rough spots, dirt, or film before applying finish paint. Finish your Nantucket® BeadBoard with 1 or 2 coats of high-quality latex or oil-based paint.
